Billy Downer Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 I'm new to putting small speakers in vehicles and stuff and was wondering if someone could help me. I have a 1988 Chevrolet c2500 and i want to make the speakers have a little bit more bass,I know these are small speakers and have barely any bass but i want to try to get them to have more kick to them, should i seal up the panel they are in or should i try to make a box in the gap where they are to get a little bit more bass?Any help is appreciated. I am going to put subs in but for now i just want to have a little bit more bass for now and no, i am not going to cut any holes in the truck for 2 reasons, first reason its my first truck and want it to last a good couple years and second my dad hates when i cut into metal
truthsayer Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Billy, I still have a 1991, 3/4 ton single cab. And i as well used to have the 4x6 speakers. And i hate to tell you, bit you will never be happy with 4x6 speakers. I tried many different ones and they all suck. And if you plan on putting in a sub, the 4x6 will never be enough. And you definitely wont get any bass from them. So what i done was put horn tweets in the dash where the 4x6 speakers went. And then put a pair of 6x9's in the doors. And then built boxes for a pair of 6x9's behind the seat. Then built a box for a 12'' sub, center behind the seat. And its great. But after the first of the year i might go with 8'' or 10'' in the doors. For now its pretty damn good. truthsayer
jk13 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Not to be a downer Billy (sorry, really. lol) but no bass has been had from a 4x6 in that location. Before pulling the entire dash out and trying to fab something up to make a speaker try to do something it wasn't designed to do, at least consider putting a woofer in the door. If cutting is absolutely not an option then build a nice sealed set of kick panels. Enclosures will be too small for deep bass, but a lot more bottom end than what you've got now--and totally removable with no evidence. Static drops are my bag.
03 Xtreme Fosgate Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Welcome to the forum... I have a set of Rockford Fosgate T1462's in my 03' S10 dash and they surprised me with the bass they put out but in the end they are made to be loud not for bass. And due to the e-brake right up against the kick panel, its really not an option. And because the way center (main vent) comes out. Building a center speaker box is also not a good option. I hate to say it but the doors is about the only thing left. He doesnt have to cut the doors if he doesn;t want to. Build of the door panel. But i just cut a hole down low in the door (doesn't infear with anything) then built a angles spacer to ailm the speaker at a angle up. Sorry Billy we aint giving the news you wanted. truthsayer
Billy Downer Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 i mean the speakers in the rear,im putting bass blockers on the front so they dont distort and yes i know 4x6 have barely any bass but i want to do this so the panel doesnt flex and so the cab is quieter
truthsayer Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 If you want to build up the door panels and dont want to damage your. You can pick up a set from the salvage yard for about $30, then you can experiment with those. Really no matter what you do once you put in a good sub, you will never hear the 4x6 speakers. But they do make good locations for tweeters. And you have plenty room to make small boxes for 6x9's behind the seat. If my son comes by this weekend i will have him take some pics to post. So you can see what i did. truthsayer

truthsayer Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Are you asking if you can amp 4x6 speakers. If so yes. But not to many handle that many watts. I tried some Lanzar's that where like 300 watts, but amping then made little difference. There's just something about 4x6 speakers, just dont put out much or sound that good. truthsayer
03 Xtreme Fosgate Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 I think it depends on the speakers,amp,vehicle,etc..My RF power 4x6's sound great on amp power and take the power very well, powered off a RF P400.4.. You can make kick panels work in your truck too,I did. Just have to put some spacers behind the brake mounting plate and bend the brake pedal out a little bit. I believe I have a pic of it still..
