razuuk004
OKAY SO MY SPECIAL ALCANTARA BEIGE SUEDE (ITALIAN SUEDE) FOR THE DOOR INSERTS ARRIVED YESTERDAY. THIS STUFF IS EXPENSIVE ($106.00 A YARD + 15 FOR SHIPPING). AND I THOUGHT I SHOULD SHOW IT IN RELATION TO A COUPLE OF PIECES THAT SHOWS THE INTERIOR COLORS. ALSO GOT SAMPLES OF THE ALCANTARA BLACK SUEDE AS WELL. SO WHAT DO Y'ALL THINK? THE BEIGE WILL BE THE COLOR OF THE 2 SPEAKER SECTION AND THE DOOR'S TWEETER POD. THE BLACK WITH PURPLE PEARL WILL BE THE REST OF THE DOOR PANEL WITH ALL THE CARBON FIBER INSERTS AND SECTIONS. oldsoundguy
I just read through the whole thread again. Damn I love it. I know now for sure that I will be able to make door panels now. I am so confident that I purchased another set of 6.5 for my doors so I will be running two sets. I will redo what I have done now which isn't much but now have the confidence to do it after reading this thread. Again thanks for the explanation of steps and all the pics. This needs to be Pinned as a how to door panels. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/

razuuk004
OKAY SO IN THE SANDING THE PRIMER DOWN PROCESS, ALWAYS USE A SANDING BLOCK ON ALMOST ALL LARGE FLAT SURFACES, DON'T USE YOUR HANDS BECAUSE YOU MIGHT LEAVE INDENTATIONS LEFT BY YOUR FINGERS THAT YOU CANT SEE UNTIL THE PIECE IS PAINTED AND THEN IT'S TOO LATE. ONLY USE YOUR HANDS ON VERY CURVY AREAS LIKE AROUND THE SPEAKER POD AND THAT CURVE UNDER THE ARM REST. WHEN YOU SAND ALWAYS TRY TO SAND IN A CIRCULAR MOTION INSTEAD OF BACK AND FORTH AND BE CAREFUL AROUND THE EDGES. THE EDGES AND CORNERS IS WHERE YOU WONT HAVE AS MUCH MATERIAL (PRIMER AND OR PAINT/CLEAR COAT) BECAUSE OF GRAVITY MAKING IT RUN DOWN. SO WHEN YOU SAND YOU MIGHT BREAK THRU IN THOSE AREAS. DON'T PANIC, IT IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN ON THE FIRST AND MAYBE THE SECOND TIME OF PRIMERING. JUST STOP ON THAT AREA AND CONTINUE ON THE REST OF THE PANEL. IF YOU MANAGE TO SAND DOWN THE FIRST TIME OF PRIMER WITHOUT BREAKING THRU ANY AREAS THEN YOU ARE INCREDIBLY LUCKY AND DON'T HAVE TO GO FOR THE SECOND OR EVEN A THIRD TIME AROUND. YOU SAND AN AREA UNTIL ALL ORANGE PEEL IS GONE AND THAT AREA IS COMPLETELY SMOOTH WITHOUT ANY DIMPLES. ALWAYS SAND, WIPE AND CHECK YOUR WORK. AND SAND, WIPE AND CHECK YOUR WORK, ALL IN SMALL SECTIONS AT A TIME UNTIL YOU COMPLETED THE ENTIRE PIECE. REMEMBER, YOU MIGHT BREAK THRU IN SOME AREAS BUT DON'T PANIC. ALSO CHECK IF THERE IS ANY TRAPPED AIR BUBBLES UNDER THE PRIMER WHILE YOU ARE GOING AROUND. TRAPPED AIR BUBBLES HAPPEN WHEN THE PRIMER DID NOT STICK WELL AND THE HEAT OF THE DAY EXPANDED THE AIR UNDER THE PRIMER AND LIFTED IT UP. IF YOU FIND ANY AREAS WITH IT,THIS IS THE TIME TO FIX THIS INSTEAD OF LEAVING IT BECAUSE IT WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND AND YOU DON'T WANT TO JUST LEAVE IT AND PAINT OVER IT. PEAL AS MUCH OF THE PRIMER OF THAT AREA UNTIL YOU REACH THE EDGE WHERE THE PRIMER DID STICK AND DRY SAND UNTIL YOU FEATHER THE PRIMER TO THE EXPOSED PANEL. AND THIS TIME AROUND, DO NOT PUT ADHESIVE PROMOTER TO THAT AREA, LEAVE IT SANDED DOWN BUT DO CLEAN IT BEFORE YOU GET TO APPLYING THE SECOND AND/OR THIRD TIME OF PRIMER. IF YOU SEE A BIG DIMPLE OR PINHOLE IN AN AREA, DO NOT CONTINUE TO SAND UNTIL IT DISAPPEARS, INSTEAD USE AUTOMOTIVE PUTTY FILLER (IT IS EITHER RED OR WHITE IN A PASTE TUBE) AND SPREADER. LET IT CURE AND SAND DOWN UNTIL YOU ONLY LEAVE THE PUTTY FILLED PINHOLE. NOW CLEAN UP THE ENTIRE PANEL WITH WAX AND GREASE REMOVER. LET IT DRY, RE-PAPER IT UP, AND APPLY YOUR SECOND STAGE OF PRIMER (2 TO 3 COATS). ALL SANDING, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FEATHERING AFTER REMOVING THE TRAPPED AIR BUBBLES, IS DONE WET (WET SANDING). WITH 400 GRIT. PEALING OFF AND FEATHERING IS DONE DRY WITH 240 GRIT. NOW LET THIS STAGE COMPLETELY CURE OVERNIGHT AND REPEAT THE WET SAND PROCESS ONLY THIS TIME BE CAREFUL ON THE AREAS WHERE YOU KNOW YOU BROKE THRU AND TRY NOT TO BREAK THRU THIS TIME.
