2000 Malibu Build 2 skar vvx 15 v2's AQ 2200D

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys, i really appreciate it!

The cigarette lighter knob was a lot easier than i anticipated. the cigarette lighter itself rotates inside the housing without modification, and the center of the cigarette lighter that sticks out is what i epoxied to the actual potentiometer. i used a PAC LC-1, and took it out of the housing, and there is a threaded part that doesn't rotate, that attatches to the cigarette lighter housing with a nut, where there is a little hole in the center. To get the plug part that hooks to electrical out, i just took a hacksaw to the plastic piece, and it all just fell out of the housing.

Liking the build man, nice and clean. Love what you did with the amp too!

Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do that
I can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows

came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream.

oh lawd.

Hey check out my build log, I have the same car, though I used two 12s and never really upgraded the electrical very much, Never had a budget, also, the car is having issues now, it's at 175k and the problems have started, moved on the the truck, much easier to work on. But I'm sure you could get a few ideas, just have a look.

I think I also have a post about a 4th order bandpass, though because I'm planning on selling the car, I gave up on the idea.

I like the cigarette lighter volume knob, I'll have to try that sometime. My Malibu is the 2.2 Ecotech,

just Google the engine bay, that alt is buried under the intake, it's a pain to get to. Yours is right there on top! (Lucky)

There is room under the seat specifically the driver side, for a fairly large amp, and the floor vents will blow A/C air right to the amp as well.

I Like the PRB300.4 in the glove box, too. Cheers!

it's hard to keep going on with the build while taking 21 credits in college, i'm 18 btw, don't really have the cash either...

the new xs battery can't happen until i get the Fosgate sold, I don't have enough cash to buy a battery after paying for tuition... :glare:

some pics and actual updates will be next!

Ok, to the updates!

first off, last week i found this:

DSCN0523.jpg

the trim panel that goes around my stereo cracked pretty badly...

here's a pic with the plasti dip peeled off:

DSCN0527.jpg

i fiberglassed the panel more for more strength, and i put body filler in there to make it all good again. right now, its primer color in my car, well, i can't drive to school and back every weekday and not have my stereo working! i can't stand driving my car with no music!

got a small start on the trim panel in the rear, i wish it was done already so i could enter SOTM!

First, i got some printer paper, a can of paint cap, and a ruler, and i got to work.

here is the first tryout:

DSCN0503.jpg

it was too large, and the curves were just too large also.

so, i cut out the middle of the paint cap, where there is a smaller circle, and i made it again, but smaller:

i was satisfied with this one, so i made it work!

Cut piece of 3/4 mdf - all i had around to work with...

DSCN0511.jpg

drew the shape up on the board:

cutting it out with the jigsaw, yes, it is a really old one, but it does the job:

All cut out:

test fit:

I made my stinger volt meter a little pan to fit in my stereo trim panel where the cubby hole is, and i ordered carbon fiber vinyl to put on the stereo trim panel, but the guy i got it from sent me the wrong stuff... :angry2: so, ill figure all of this crap out, and get moving soon!

Also, i should be making another vid soon, so any suggestions on what you guys want to see or anything, feel free to let me know!

Well everyone, I'm currently uploading another demo vid. it is a lot longer and really shows what this baby can do, especially at the lows!

I've had the stereo trim piece done for a while now, just haven't taken any pics of it.

I'll post up the new video when it gets done...

also, a friend of mine bought a 97 Subaru legacy wagon, and i'm building door pods for him, designed a box, and ran wires and goodies... Whenever i can convince him to post up a log, you guys will be able to see where my little bit of free time goes these days.

Waiting for vids!

Btw my car is sold, no more malibu for me. Glad to see your still at it, you've done more than I have.

I would recommend upgrading the alt, as the stock one can't take very much, I know, alts are kinda pricey and intimidating to do, but it will support your batteries and amp far better at idle, you'll be glad you did. Mechman has a 240A for like 300, so it's not out of reach. Drops right in I think. Anyway, they will send you a quote for free with an alt just for you car, takes them a week but hey it's a free quote on some of the best alts out there.

Here's a build I'm doing for a friend as well, He's got more income than me (for now) so he's getting some nice stuff.
