Exploding Batteries? Is this possible?

Hey SMD members just need some advice on this.

I have a 93 Honda Civic Hatchback that i'm dropping a temp system into, stock alternator died so i ordered a 130A from Grand Starters but i asked my mechanic and he said that since i'm using a stock battery i shouldnt even put the car on the road with the system due to the risk of the battery exploding from over charging. Is this right?

I have a Maximo battery (decent brand compared to the bs they sell around my aera for big bucks) its rated at 20AH and 400CCA. If you guys can give me a heads up i'll be really apreciative.

Rockford Fosgate P400.1

2 ROckford Fosgate P1 *8 inch woofers

Clarion 4 channel amp

Alpine 6.5 components (unsure which type to get)

Rockford P3 8 inch woofer (possible along with another P400.1)

(PS: I've checked about getting a Kinetic or XS Power battery so just need a final word before i buy it)

Overcharging will make shit of a battery but overcharging as in higher voltages than what it's made for. Not what he's talking about.

Exploding not so much. Just cause it to swell and vent.

Please take the alternator to that mechanic and propmply smack him with it. You will be fine it will only put out as much as your car can use aka if your car needs 80 amps it will produce 80 amps.

Good idea i was thinking to do that with the old one. But how does that work? I read somewhere that it would produce 80 Amps at idle but 130 at 4000 RPMs

The alternator will only supply the amount the battery needs, not more unless the alternator is faulty.

The alternator will only supply the amount the battery needs, not more unless the alternator is faulty.

I found a link with a similar one to what i ordered i see exactly what you mean i gues the rating is the max it will put out under pressure?
