Memory Problems

Recommended Posts

I have an old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop that I got from a family member. It's a decent computer for it's age, built back in 2004. Problem is the memory. When I got it, it had a 256mb and a 512mb memory in it. Something happened to the 256mb so I was only running the 512mb. I did a little looking around and noticed that according to dell the computer can support up to 1.5gb, but according to Intel it can support up to 2.0gb. I ordered two 1gb memory cause for one I thought my computer could handle it, and cause some of the programs I use for school require 2gb. Was I wrong in assuming that my computer could support 2gb?

I did change a few things when I was only running 512mb to get a little better performance out of the computer, but I don't remember the factory settings. I don't know if that is affecting what's going on now or not. I would set the computer back to factory, but I don't have the discs to reinstall everything. At least I think I would need those discs on a computer this old.

you may have to set the timings and voltage for the new ram

If you have windows XP cd Those should be the drivers it. There is service tag that should tell you exactly what was in the machine. Don't know if that will help your problem, but if you wish to format it Those maybe the drivers needed.
