Btl Recone Kits?

how the hell do u replace tinsel without having to get a recone? or tearing apart the cone to get to the coil

i was just wondering the same thing.....if you look steve actually had a thread that he was showing the reconning of the BTLs....so yea he did have to recone his BTLs. you cant just replace a tinsel without reconning or ripping the cone apart to get to the coil....

You do not need a recone your woofer to replace tinsel leads. Went to Steve’s about 2 weeks ago and he taught me how to do it. I have reconed Fi woofers a few times now for myself and different people. Reconeing woofers are a piece of cake compared to fixing a tensel. Well at least is was for me. If you want me to go in depth on how to fix the tensel lead ill be more then happy to. Also recones from Scott are $90 a piece sent to you. Best way to get a hold of Scott is by his forum or if you got the secret #. HAHA. But yeah tensels can be fixed without the recone.

NP. Ill do a quick type up on how to fix the tensel

Steve may correct me on this incase I miss something. First take a screw drive and a hammer and remove the dust cap without breaking it. If it breaks you will need a new one. Remove the dust cap and you will see a glob of hard CA glue under the dust cap, opposite side to the broken tinsel. Gently break the black glue until you see a silver ball of solder. Make sure you do not touch or break into the ball of solder! Break enough glue away that you can pull the old tensel threw the cone. Cut the tensel but leave a little less then a quarter of an inch of the old tensel still attached to the ball of solder. Then soder on the new tensel and bring it threw the same hole the old tensel went threw. Then solder it to the termal. Then cover the soder ball and wire with glue the same as it was when you took off the dustcap. Reattach the dust cap and your ready to go. Took me about an hour from start to finish. let me help be more specific on the hammer and screwdriver.....its a flathead and you gently tap on it to try and get under and break the glue at the dustcap....sounds brutal but its not so bad just try not to go at an angle so as to not go thru the cone

oh ya, be careful not to drop any glue sharpnel into the gap, its a pain to get out....cover it up with tape as soon as the dust cap comes off and reinspect before putting the cap back on....

wow sounds like a bitch! lol not sure if im willing to tackel somthing like that i might as well just recone but really wanna try it myself what all will i need to get to recone? glue and what else???
