Turn whole trunk into a 4th order?

Now this may sounds completely stupid because i dont have much experience in car audio but i was wondering if i could turn my whole trunk into a 4th order.

ive read that 4th orders are a sealed box firing into a ported box so i thought that since i can put the middle section of my rear seats down that maybe it could act as a ported box? Then i can just put a sealed box in there with whatever.

Please no negative comments. if it cant be done then just say so. Im looking for a whole new setup in my car and im just making ideas for now.

What you are talking about is kinda aready done...its part of why rear firing can sometimes be louder than subs facing forward sealed off from the trunk. Also, there are alot of loud trunk setups with a ported box pushed all the way back against the back wall of the trunk firing forward. The remaining trunk space acts as a sort of "front gain chamber" turning the trunk itself into a quasi sixth.

I know in some trunk cars I remember seeing them turning the trunk into a super large sealed enclosure with a bafflebehind the rear seats..almost like an IB setup. For a 4th...no it wouldn't work right in my mind..you would pretty much have to wall to do a large 4th order in a car. Why not do a NICE ported setup with quality gear...if you are new to it all some decent 12's...x12's xfl12's DC level 3/4's etc on 2k-3k and a alt/battery setup I bet would be louder then most anything you have heard and sound great if you do a good job on the enclosure.

mrd6 thats exactly what i mean.

OrzechNJ thats a whole 4th order box right?. i want to just put something simple in since that seems too complicated for me to build anyways.

So my total trunk area is 14 cubic feet according to the manual. what should i do to get the best output out of it?

Can you build a 14cubed box that will fit through the trunk opening? Or is that manufacture trunk space they list to get you to buy the car?

Chris Hammer i have a 3.5 cubic foot box(i think thats the total size) in there thats tuned to 32hz with 2 rockford fosgate 12's. Can you try and find an example of what your talking about?

i still havent decided if i want a sq style setup or a spl style build yet though. Im open for just about anything though from 8's to 18's. Im gonna try and keep it on my soundqubed Q1-1200d though.

My manufacture spec says I can fit 13 cubes in my 96 accord. A 4.0 cube box after all displacements later and I have enough room for my amps, battery and enough trunk space for 2 small backpacks. And that's forward firing sealed off.

I think the biggest box I could slide in mine would be 5cubes after all displacements. Anything else would need to be built in.

Pics of box? What do you want from your system? you can get louder and still have it sound good...True SQ is probably way out of budget and scope of what you are trying to do.

What do you not like about your current setup?
