My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Recommended Posts

Well home from work today. Pretty tired so just prepared for the comp tomorrow. I pulled out both subs to check wiring and the coils. Only thing I found was a couple stripped spax screws. After pulling the subs I used a thin sticky gasket material between the sub and box for a better seal. Then I used a screw gun to start the screws then tightened them by hand so not to strip them again. Oh and I did rotate the sub to get new wood to screw into.

I am ready. Not in it to win it just curious to see what it does.

Ok either I am a dumb ass or someone changed the comp schedule. I could of sworn it was the 13th but I just looked at the schedule and it says the 20th now. Well crap I will be out of town at my bros surprise retirement party in Longbeach WA. Oh well another time then...

Got a little more work done today. Had to work yesterday so I was too tired to do anything so today was the day. I took out both sets of 6.5 speakers and clamped the pass side door panel to the door. I drew a line were the dash hits the panel. I took it off and used the router again to take off material. After that I clamped it in place and marked the holes for the studs. After those set up well I put it back on the door and clamped it in place and added two more studs. The studs that are on the outside of the panel are going trough the holes for the stock plastic holders. The other two I found a good flat place on the door panel in close location that I wanted.

After that I took the speaker rings and did a round over edge on the outside and used a round file to finish off the center of the two rings. A little more sanding and some filler and ready for paint. I love the way they are turning out so far.

got a little done today. I started light filler stage. Filling hole and feathering in the upper part that is by the dash.

I get off early tomorrow so I will continue sanding and getting ready to attach the speaker rings.

Your wood working skills are great...Bondo spreading....not so good. LOL keep it smooth so you dont have extra sanding. In for finished results though!

Since your tight on space and thinking about going active with multiply speakers a nice small amp like a RF PBR or something to that nature would do you well to run your highs off of. They dont need shit tons of power to get loud and sound good. That would leave your SQ 4 ch to run mids in what ever ohm you can handle.

Just sharing ideas for a tight space build. It is one of the things i do like about RFs amps is there small footprint. But you pay for it.
