GueroZ28 Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 As im trying to build this box already have all specs but i noticed the port volume? How much should it have?
TylerParrish Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 We need to at least know what sub you're working with. alaskanzx5 Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 Depends on speaker, some say depends on box size but not really as i'm learning. Search the forum for info on how to truly find the port area you need. That and if you go to google.com and type in car audio port length them click on the first thing that pops up (at least on my computer) there is a calculator for min port area depending on sub size and xmax. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
bbeljefe Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 There isn't an amount of volume a port "should" have. Your concern is with port area and length. Once you've got those two figured out, you're good. And in order to help you with that, we'd have to know the sub, the tuning frequency and the net box volume you're after in order to help you. Well both subs together need about 3.3cuft of air space and tuned to 39hz. Since im using 1/2 MDF my dimensions will be 32"x15 3/4"x14 1/2" (sort of cant remember extactly) .. that gives me about 3.7cuft and tuned at about 38hz with a 6" port 11" inches long 3 inches out.. (again sort of cant remember exactly) but my question is what would the port have to be and why would it have that volume?
alaskanzx5 Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 That still doesn't tell us the subs your using. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
alaskanzx5 Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 Oh and it's recommended to use at least .75" mdf, prevents box flex. Pending subs and potter being used braces might help. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Im using 2 500watt db drive 12s single 4 ohm about 250 rms.. i thought maybe since the subs arent to strong maybe 1/2mdf would cut it
bbeljefe Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 I don't know that your understanding of port volume is correct. Port area is measured in square inches and it is determined by the xmax of the driver and the tuning frequency you desire. Port length is determined by the box volume and the port area. Port volume is determined by the area and length of the port plus the thickness of the material used to build the port. And frankly, it is irrelevant with respect to how the box sounds. What's important is that if you're building a 2 cube box, you add the volume of the port to the total box size so that you end up with 2 net cubic feet of box volume. alaskanzx5 Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 such low power should be fine with 1/2" mdf. For those somewhere around 25sq"-35sq" should be fine. So 2 4" round Ports basically or a slot port with similar our slightly higher port area That's just of the top of my head, my not be 100% but I doubt Pitt noise with those speakers and my suggestion. I'm not anything near an expert though t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
