theboogieman77
Thanks skullz I will keep that in mind when considering a box. That makes me wonder whether I would even notice a difference in 10s and 12s in my big car. Other than loudness of course

SnowDrifter
Gotta play with the box. My 12s with the previous recone on them (super super super stiff) in a box with 2.15 cuft per tuned to 28 with ~35 sqin of port played pretty flat from about 24 up to whatever the high note in "get out" is (mid/high 50s?). Had a little bit of a drop in output around 40hz, but it was only noticeable if playing a sweep However, the newer cones (softer suspension, thicker coil) don't seem to like that box nearly as much. Gets peaky around tuning. Just gotta play with it. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
SnowDrifter
I will also add: it's easier to tune lower with larger subs/larger boxes due to port length ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
theboogieman77
You would say the 12s are pretty responsive? And is that attributed to the low tune?
Joe X
You would say the 12s are pretty responsive? And is that attributed to the low tune? If you want better transient response for a tighter net volume box, for the fi Xs 1.8-2 cubes net per sub, also go for relatively low tuning like about 30 - 32Hz, that way group delay is hard to notice, the disadvantage of SQ alignments is that you don't get the most output for the watt. In any case just getting rid of the xplods will make a difference. Lastly and this is very common, don't ask the sub to do it all, you need clean power and a clean signal, just using a stock head unit can ruin an otherwise SQ setup. theboogieman77
Alright cool, good to know. I am thinkin to tune SQ and I've got a jvc $100 dollar deck that works alright for now. My amp is what seemed like the most bang for under 200 and I will see how that goes and post up on it. Thanks guys
