C Pillar Port Configuration?

Recommended Posts

Okay this is a calculator I have on my android phone. I am a little short on cubes and the cubes are not exact I think I have around 13ish before displacements. Here is my idea for the port though. I may make it somewhat external so I can squeeze out a few more cubes but I'm not sure how that will change the tuning. Supposedly driver side ports are the loudest in suvs on the meter and also very windy. Will this port configuration work well? If so I will start cutting out the front baffle soon. Does it look like it will work well? The subs are fi bl/psi 18's.

Im not box expert by any means so keep that in mind.

Did you account for sub displacement?

Also have you looked in to a regular slot port instead of the one you have designed? You may get more space that way and be able to mount the subs side by side if you wish.

Also try torres box calc it stillbhas its problems but it is one of the best free sofwares out there

also, doesnt look like enough port area for 18s

What is a good port area formula or chart to go by?

its really trial and error, theres a website that i can post a link to that has a formula for a suggested minimal port area for no port noise but the number is always so high it hard to have that much port area and get the tuning where you like. Im far from an expert but if i were gonna make a wall with 2 18s I would shoot for around 100" per sub, maybe a little less. Just me though, i think 50" per sub is not enough though. I have 70" port for 1 15

You can go slightly on the lower side of the formula's for car audio, but you will most likely have port noise.

But all the formulas can do is get you within +10% even less for the calculator, but the theory behind it still stands true, you have to have X amount of port area for Y driver, no matter how much volume is in any enclosure for that driver.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

I guess I am just finding it difficult to get it to be 100" per sub because the tuning it hard to get into the 36hz without a really long port.

Sacrifices.

Got to make them somewhere.
