These subs were owned for 9 years by the previous owner. He stated his friend owned them for 6 years before that.

They were running off a Kicker 750.1 wired to 8ohm (dual 2's). Every coil test perfect at 1.9, but there is no way to see the coil itself. There was a small tear in 1 surround from a wild screwdriver at some point, but a little adhesive and I fixed her right up.

They were corroded with some minor rust on the bottom, however it appears to be surface rust. They cleaned up fine.

I put them in a 4.8ft box with 62 sq. inch of port, tuned to 36ish, triple baffle. They are running of an unmodded mmats d300hc, gain set very conservatively for now.

Now my question... One phone call, the guy at DD said early spl sub, 2nd phone call a different guy tells me it's a sql sub. Going by the xmax and BL I would think sq, but they seem to have trouble above 45hz, but damn at 32hz-ish they get down right nasty. As in deeper, better sound than my 9512's in the same box.

Can anyone give a general opinion, and maybe relate the t/s parameters to some enclosure guidelines? This will be a trunk car btw.

Low Qts, low Vas, pretty low FS...you're not going to need a large box to get these things to play low, which is why you have a pretty exaggerated low-end in the current box of 4.8ft^3. 3.5-4ft^3 for the pair is plenty in this case, if you have ample power for them. The box design could also be affecting your upper end response above 45hz, hard to tell you any more without knowing the exaclt box details.

So today I noticed that if I turned my box around, it damn near fits perfectly AND seals itself off. (for all intents and purposes)

So I did such, and it fit like a glove.

However, I lost a good bit of loudness to the ear in the lower notes, but the box is much more musical now, playing into the high 40's and low 50's with ease, and being much louder at those notes.

I will say though, I'm getting flex (minor) and rattles like I never did before.

Any input or experience with similar scenarios?
