Different ohm loads

I don't know what to call this, but I have wondered for a long time about it: What happens if you wire a sub to say, 1ohm, but you connect it to an amp channel that is 2ohm; what happens?

Well then you fry your amp, or put it in to protect, or over heat it.

How have you been in the game a long time, but don't know ohm laws? You must fuck up a lot of equipment.

Amplifiers don't deliver impedance, they react to it.

If you mean what would happen to a 2Ω stable amp if you connect a 1Ω load, that depends on what sort of protection circuitry it has (if any). JL amps usually have a low ohm light that lights when the amp sees a lower than rated impedance and the amp shuts down. Some other amps will simply play until they overheat, blow FETS, burn power supply caps or fail in some other way.

Crap, son of a bitch I just realized how retarded this question was. Depending on the difference of loads, either the amp will be pushed too much or the sub will be. Lock plox, im tired.

I understood what you meant (at least I thought I did) but I wanted to make the clarification just in case.

And no, the amp won't necessarily be pushed too hard but it's a good possibility. Just think of all the 1Ω stable amps people are driving at a half or even lower. Will it affect the lifespan of the amp? Probably. But we don't care because by the time that happens, there will probably be some new amp we want anyway, lol.

Also, the sub(s) won't be pushed too hard unless it's lot more power than they're rated for and/or there is clipping. It isn't the impedance that negatively affects subwoofers, it's the former.

First what the hell is lock plox? second if the sub ohm is 1ohm and amp is rated at 2ohm odds are you are going to hurt the amp. How ever if your sub is 2ohm and the amp has a 1ohm rating it's still only going to see a 2ohm load. So not quite sure what this post actually means. Edit: looks like bbeljefe and i posted same time and he apears also to be a little complexed by your post. LOL

First what the hell is lock plox?

In English, that means... "Moderator, would you please discontinue new postings in this thread? I've asked a question I didn't think through first and I'm less than interested in having a bunch of assholes come in here and call me stupid."

Or something like that. :Jim:
