bbeljefe Posted March 2, 2014 Report Share Posted March 2, 2014 A 30/40 amp common automotive relay on a 20 amp circuit with 12 guage wire is what should be used and the head unit should only be used to turn on the relay. Most head units cannot provide more than 250 milliamps of current and they are not overcurrent protected, so if you do cause an overload on the remote wire the worst thing that can happen is not that the radio won't turn the amps on. The worst thing that can happen (and the most likely) is that you'll do irreparable damage to the head unit. Never run fans or more than two amps on the head unit's remote out.
