Setting up a OM1. Why use the -5 track? Other questions.

Recommended Posts

Im setting my OM1 up.

Directions say to use track 3 for a sub amp.

Thats me.

That i think is the -5.

If i use a different lay over, say -7.5, do i just keep rolling?

ALso, directions say to find max HU clip and back down. Im clean full.

What dont i see or get?

Thanks

1. Disconnect speakers from amplifier
2. Connect OM-1 as described in installation
section.
3. Connect DD-1 to amplifier output
4. Play track 3 or 4 from Distortion Detector CD
(Track 3 for subwoofer amplifier, Track 4 for full
range amplifier), set track to repeat.
5. Turn volume on source unit up until DD-1 RED
distortion detected LED illuminates.
6. Turn source volume down one click until
distortion is no longer detected.
7. Carefully, with small adjustment screwdriver,
turn the adjustment pot on the OM-1 fully
counter clockwise. Then turn clockwise until
the display switches from amber to red. Do this
for each of the meters.
8. It is now calibrated
9. Reconnect speakers and enjoy

I can't answer all the questions.. But for the max clip question.. Run her wide open.. Just like how you DD1'd your amps.

The OM-1 is adjustable so you can set it wherever you want to show clipping (or whatever you want really).

You know your system, so I'd say forget the book and just adjust it where your system starts to clip (or whatever clipping level you're comfortable with) and go from there.
