Krakin Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 I run a Kenwood amp that runs very hot at 2-ohm nomial resistance. A way I helped it was just going bonkers on the wire I am using. For a mere ~500W I am running 4 gauge OFC with doubled up 14 gauge speaker wire. I still get hot, but it fixed a lot with that design. So does this mean that I can run it below the rated resistance if I double up the speaker wire?

My amplifier "states" that it is 1-Ohm stable, but was hot and unstable on normal wiring at 2-Ohms. Krakin Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 I wouldn't jump to any conclusions till after you get a multi-meter and see what you are running at. My experience was with a whole completely different brand, however, still in the cheaper design category. Your problem could just be as simple as accidentally wiring below suggested resistance. If not then you may have just got an amp that runs hot, and as long as it doesn't start spewing smoke or you hear a pop, I would call it good.
