Starting off my wiring build (06 Lexus GS)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, if some of you have followed a few of my threads, I started off my thread with a bunch of questions, as it's how I start off before I dive deep into anything I'm interested in.

Before I came here, I knew and cared jack about wiring and electricals, but it didn't come to my attention until lately that the equipment I use has been pretty inefficient. So I am here with all ears on how to setup my system.

I'd like to start off with my equipment list, as that's how most people start off, right?

-Stinger 1/0 kit off ebay back in 2005 (it is OFC, but I see green corrosion on it).

-Accuair E-Level Management kit: 2 compressors, wireless remote kit (100amp relay).

- JL Audio G6600 (Only using 4 channels, so I'd say a total of 400w RMS).

-CT Sounds at1400.1d (2-ohm load, 700w, looking to do 1-ohm load, 1400w).

-Cheap Tsunami Distribution block (Removing soon, so much resistance that I get crazy voltage drops, when equipment is wired straight to stinger kit, I get 1.5-2v higher readings on full tilt/compressor kick-on, see my Mechman problems thread for further details).

-Mechman 240a alt (2 runs for positive, OEM & 1/0 gauge to battery) (2 runs for negative, OEM & 1/0 gauge to chassis).

That's about it electrical-wise..... Now onto the parts I have fathomed up on my parts to order list.

I am looking to do a FULL overhaul, while still keeping stock electrical wires on the car. Which is why I chose some of the parts I picked.

*As far as battery terminals, I am stuck between these two (keep in mind I want to keep the OEM wiring still intact, the positive end doesn't need the battery post adaptor, only the negative):

*As far as wiring, I'm stuck between these two (I am going CCA, as I don't see why I need OFC for such a small application):

*As far as Lug ends for the 1/0 runs, I'd like to use one of these two (I will be attempting to solder, rather than crimp):

*As far as a distribution block, I'd like to try this one (still, I am open to ideas on much more efficient methods, I don't need the distro blocks to be fused TBH):

My budget is currently around $150. I'd like to achieve all the parts needed for all 3 systems in my trunk for around that. I am open to options and input on varying parts that replace these for my needs.

Once all parts are ordered, since most of the stuff is already installed, I'll start a build thread via wires.

Thanks all for your input!

First off you should always leave stock wire in place.

Idk Whay kind of connection you have on your oem wires now but you can always put lugs on them so that you can use any of those battery terminals with bolts.

I would do a single run of 1/0 ofc from your front to back.

For a dist block id look into a toolmaker or cnf made block.

And lastly my preference are the sky high lugs. Great quality and they can be soldered or crimped

TY Trey dog for your input :).

I was looking for advice JUST like this....

I definitely left my stock wiring in place as I ran all my wires for the alternator parallel (ground and power).

As for my OEM wiring, the positive end has lug connections, the negative end is crimped to the top post connector, which I left in place still. I figured I'd get the "Ultimate" pos and neg from knukonceptz, but I'm nervous of whether or not they are reliable and provide good & tight connections to the wires. Also, every penny I can save is another penny that can go elsewhere.

I'm checking out toolmaker as we speak, whatever I can save on shipping, it'll be worth it!

I also checked out the SHCA lugs, they're cheap as hell, work great, and it's something that's 10000000000000x easier to work with IMO. I've tried working with gold terminals and it was a giant PITA. I ended up soldering half-assed, and then crimping, because I suck at life.

Whoa, SHCA is out of stock for the next 3 weeks on CCA (which is the only wire I can afford, it still holds enough amperage IMO for my application).

Toolmaker is out of stock on all their stuff... All that's literally left is really Knu gear... I may just get the lugs from SHCA and get the rest of the stuff from Knu :(.

With a 250 amp alt you're Kinda at the limits of a single cca run. I'd do 2 runs of cca or 1 of ofc

I was instructed by an Accuair specialist (one of their workers, as I'm friends with him), that I should run a 6 gauge wire from the rear to the front (fused) for that system alone. He said he doesn't wanna see his friend open the trunk to two fried compressors (which cost a lot IMO). So I'm running a 6ga line separate for the 100a compressors.

As far as the mids and highs (600w RMS) and the sub amp, do you think it will suffice on 1 run of CCA?

I don't mind running two runs, as I have 50 friggin ft of it! LOL!! I would just rather keep it simple.

Many many thanks for your help Trey! You're a lifesaver! And I'm glad the gear I'm trying to attain isn't bad at all. Since it's ~$216 total for the gear.

I'm working on my build log soon, I promise slayer LOL!

I haven't purchased new wheels yet, so it's just your basic GS on the OEM 18s (bagged of course).

Most I can do is really take photos of it as is, as I rarely take photos of any of my rides. I had maybe 12 photos of my 93' Miata from first inheriting it to the day I sold it (~$10k invested in it, kicker audio, Boston Acoustics, EQs, Orion amps, turbo, ECU, clutch, kit repaint, the works basically).

Same goes for the GS, but i'll try to snap more photos as I go along with the electricals buildup!

I literally only have one photo of the 2 12in SD-2's I'm using temporarily in the trunk (sealed). Wifey was helping me put it in (she was cursing at me the whole time, and she could barely hold up the amp for me to mount on the back of the box.

I'm at .5ohms on the subs final impedence, running @ ~1400-1500w (it's my first time feeling 14-1500w in my car).

Almost negligible voltage drop, but I'd still rather do a revamp of the electricals anyways.

Here's a picture of the drop in (which wasn't easy as the box was probably 50+ lbs and I have only two hands to push it back there).
