csshakka
Currently, I'm running the system listed below. It gets moderately loud, but the two type r's don't seem like they are as loud as they should be. I'm not sure which direction to head - new subs, new amp, etc. Any upgrade or experimentation ends up being pretty costly so hopefully someone can give advice on what to do before blindly spending money. System - 2011 Jeep Liberty ------------------------------------- Sundown SAZ-1200d 2x 12 in Alpine Type R (1 ohm nominal, new gen style) Custom box, rear sub, rear port (1.54 cu ft/sub @ 34hz) Pioneer 80prs head unit Big 3 upgrade done (stock alt, stock battery) Thoughts/Options ------------------------- 1) New amp running 2-2.5kW RMS. This would probably require the 4 gauge runs to be redone in 0 gauge and require a battery in the trunk near the amps. 2) Swap the type r's with different 12in subs that would perform be louder on 600W-700W RMS each (but not a pure SPL sub that sounds like garbage). Another thing I'm not sure about is how much difference swapping the subs would make (SPL wise) on the same power. 3) Get rid of the type r's and go to one high end 12 in or 15 in sub that would take 1100-1400W RMS (whatever the sundown SAZ-1200d actually puts out). Once again, worried about if one high end sub could match the SPL and how much the sub is 'felt' in the driver's seat. 4) Make another enclosure - slightly bigger - at 2 cu ft per sub. Also, change to sub up, port back and possibly tune a bit higher, maybe 36hz? Obviously there's more options, but these are the first that came to mind. I appreciate the advice. whatusay45
Get rid of the type Rs and go with something bigger and better. that sundown amp could definitely push something bigger
Joe X
2 entry level 12s in a large vehicle are going to do something like you are getting so may be an expectations problem, anyways post a sketch of the box if possible just to check it out. csshakka
From what both of you have said, I would probably be best off swapping the type r's with different 12 in subs then? Any recommendations? Also, about the box. I have the CAD file from when I built it, but have to reinstall the program to open it up/view it. I'll post CAD pics up in a bit. john253a
Upgrade the amp to a q1-2200 or silimar(not a shitty toy amp) And a 0g run with an extra batt in back And enjoy what you have till you can get some coin then get something like the hds3 or bigger/better
Joe X
(not a shitty toy amp) LOL, harsh words John, agreed he's under powering though.
Joe X
OP your port area seems low to me around 20 square inches per chamber (probably not an issue till you push 2K+ ), also I imagine you are firing subs/ports back?, if so what's the clearance to the hatch? Keeping the type r's and get a bigger amp, swapping type r's with subs that get louder with my amp, or even going to down to a single higher end sub on my current amp. Whichever route, I don't plan on doing more than one upgrade (so either replace subs or replace amp and add battery). Just looking to get the sub output a bit louder and don't plan on competing, etc. OP your port area seems low to me around 20 square inches per chamber (probably not an issue till you push 2K+ ), also I imagine you are firing subs/ports back?, if so what's the clearance to the hatch? Sub and port both firing back towards the hatch. It has about a 6-7 inch clearance from sub/port. What's ur electrical look like if your going to run 4k RMS ? When I mentioned get an amp that does 2-2.5k RMS, I meant split between two subs, not 2k to each. Just guessing that's why you asked about my electrical plans for 4k RMS.
