Put a little miniature roundup together to gain a little prespective on the Sonido Mask amp that's been getting a lot of press lately. I wish I had a few more amps to toss into the mix here, but this is a pretty representative group of amps. Electrical was 300A alt + (5) G31 batts. None of the amps even really got past my alt at idle so all the voltage drops were ~ 13.5v. I used a single 2500w 12" sub with dual .7ohm coils. All amps were tested at 1.4 ohms and .35 ohm. Reactive loads were 5 ohms and 1 ohm respectively. The AMM-1 was set to dyno mode and TermLab set to peak/hold. The AMM-1 will record the highest unclipped power measurement while also accounting for power factor. The TermLab obviously records the highest SPL the amp is capable of, irrespective of cleanliness of said power. Each amp was given (3) runs at each nominal load. The highest measurements were recorded. Ok. Enough of that shit. Let's get to it... Sonido Mask 2k, prototype "1200w" amp, Digital Designs M2b, Rockford Fosgate 1500bd. For anyone not wanting to see the screen shots and my childlike paint notes, scroll to the bottom. Although, I think it's pretty awesome that I can draw on pics with my new phone Proto 1200 @ 1.4 Proto 1200 @ .35 Fosgate 1500bd @ 1.4 Fosgate 1500bd @ .35 DD M2b @ 1.4 M2b @ .35 Sonido Mask 2k @ 1.4 Sonido Mask 2k @ .35 Okie dokie. In case you couldn't follow my Sanscrit notes here's the wrap up in order... Digital Designs M2b -1.4 - 656w - 142.6db -.35 - 1,922w - 146.7db Rockford Fosgate 1500bd -1.4 - 671w - 143.1db -.35 - 1,801w - 146.1db Sonido Mask 2000 -1.4 - 345w - 140.9db -.35 - 1,392w - 145.3db Prototype "1200" -1.4 - 279w - 141.1db -.35 - 1,150w - 145.0db My thoughts... The DD is obviously the class of this bunch of amps. It's the biggest and loudest. That didn't surprise me one bit. I have plenty of experience with this amp I knew full well what it was capable of. And incidentally... what it wasn't capable of. (i.e.- 3,000w clamps and running .25 daily, etc.). It got picky as shit at the .35 nominal load, but it obviously did the work. Whether a tight protection circuit is a good or a bad thing is up to you. The Fosgate surprised me. It was the loudest amp at the "typical" daily load. Not by a ton, but to be louder than a larger DD amp in any capacity is really saying something in my book. It also got picky at .35 but not as bad as the DD. It would just "hiccup" and not have to cycle the power. To be honest, the little "mainstream" amp even staying on at .35 surprised me. Don't be sleepin' on Fosgate. Now... if they could get the damn prices down. Sheesh. I don't have much info on the proto. I honestly don't even know if it's a 1200w amp. Lol. I found it on my doorstep with a note that said, "Test me." I'll dig into it a little further tomorrow, maybe. I do know that it's Korean and had plenty in the tank past what the AMM-1 said. Interesting that a Korean "1200" kept up with a Chinese 2000, don't you think? Sonido Mask... I honestly wish I was typing that I was pleasantly surprised here, but I'm not. The big draw on these amps are that they are "good for the money". But... Are they? Obviously I can't answer that question for you, but I can answer it for me and I am of the opinion that no... they're not. I bought that DD for less than the price of the Sonido. The RF is actually for sale right this second for less than the Sonido. So, for the same price or less, you get a higher quality, more reliable amp that is louder and has better resale. I realize these are good deals and used amps I'm talking about, but I'm just saying you have options. I'm willing to wager that the little proto is going to be around the same price as the Sonido. I've been saying for a while now that a quality amp with a smaller number on the box is a better buy than a cheaper amp with a higher rating. Since the Sonido was louder than the proto, I'm not sure how convincing these results will be to that end, but this also isn't a durability test either. And I also couldn't test efficiency today. Ok, well... tl;dr. Spend your sub amp money wisely.

About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.

I didn't mean to imply that there is *a* sale going on for them. And yes... someone did, in fact, claim the Sonido 2k was louder than an M4a.
