Need SMD Help/Opinions For New Trunk Layout on Upcoming build

Recommended Posts

Whats up fellas, So some of you are familiar with my old setup. I ran 2 Sa12s on a Rockford T1500bdcp and Morels on a Rockford T600-2. Well some of you also know I sold my old setup for educational reasons but I will now begin the design phase for my new setup.

Because my equipment will be slightly different, I will need to layout my trunk differently and need you guys help/suggestions/opinions on what I should do. My new setup will consist of Hertz HSK165xl's & HCX165 coax's for rear-fill powered by a Nendo C1100.4, and my sub stage I plan to do the Sundown Sa 12s again but powered by a Nendo BC2000D.

The problem I'm having with this setup is the amps are to big to place them behind the box or on the seats like my last setup. The only thing I can think of doing is either:

1. Redesigning the enclosure so that it pushes all the way back close to the seat and build an amp rack over the spare tire well and put an extra battery in the actual well itself. This design will be rear firing.

or

2. Seal off the eclosure and build an amp rack according to the extra space left behind the enclosure.

I spoke with Jeff regarding this topic and we came up with some pros and cons to each way, but I needed help decided which would be best for my intentions.

The pros of the rear firing is i like to have all my windows down on nice days so in turn the bass is still consistent with my windowns down unlike sealing off where I would need to keep my windows up for me to keep consistent low end. Also, I'm more experienced in rear firing and more comfortable with building this setup as I KNOW what I put into it will be a success and sound the way I want it.

The cons is with me rear firing and building an enclosure in and over the spare tire well is that if a fire were to occur, It would be closer to my gas tank (worst case scenario)

The pros of sealing off would be that I can have more room to play with how I can arrange my setup and make it look prettier.

The cons would be that there is no guarentee that sealing off would work in my car and sound as consistent as rear firing. Also I mentioned that in order for me to have consistent low end like rear firing I would have to keep my back door windows up even though I like to ride with all windowns down on a nice day.

Here Is a couple pictures of my last setup to kind of invision what I'm talking about

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be as detailed as possible.... And thank you in advance for all you guys help/suggestions and opinions!

Well when I rear fire I do gain low end... I was informed that if you seal it off from the trunk that you'll lose low end if you let the rear windows down...

Lets just say I'm familiar with the subs and loved them....

As many builds that I see sealed off, I figured it would be too much work for only 2250rms .. I've eliminated A LOT of trunk rattles even when the port was 6" from the back of the trunk.. My seats do fold down, and I do not have a ski hole...

So what do you think about the idea of rear firing and making a amp rack over the spare tire well and use the actuall well itself for the secondary battery? Or what other ideas do you have?

Subs up port driver side gets pretty loud!

Well I'm not worried about what gets loud.. more so a nice layout so that all my equipment can fit in the trunk.... Rear fire was good enough for me but because my choice in amps (which are quite big compared to the space I have to work) I'm kind of lost in how to layout my trunk... I would like to do a nice amp rack over my spare tire well but I'm not sure if the vibrations will damage the amps...

Well my new setup the box will be a little less in length so I can push it further away from the trunk lid.... on the sides its right over the wheel well so its hard to call if it'll have enough room for the amps....

Here's how my trunk it laid out with nothing in it

20131117_170022_zps22f5455f.jpg

as you see, the wheel well is raised quite a bit and leave almost no room for amps on the side plus I have the trunk lid hinges to worry about :/

The more I look at it, the more I think I will have to build the same setup and just mount one amp where the previous amps were and maybe double baffle the back of the box and mount the other amp on back of it .... The only thing is it will be another regular looking setup :( I wanted to do something with a little more style so it
