im looking into a rebuild for the subie. problem is the trunk is horrible...its very hard to get a decent box in there. so i did some measuring today and i have an idea of doing a T shaped sub box to better utilize the space that i do have. here is a pic of my idea...excuse the 3rd grader drawing but i absolutely suck with google sketchup lol

outside height of the box is 12.5 inches. cant go any taller then that unfortunately. box is for 2 sd10s. currently looking for recones so i can put them at 1 ohm off my aq2200d.

my main problem is im not sure on what to do with the port. im planning on sealing this off from the trunk. with this shape of a box i think this is the only way to get a driver side port. i was also thinking of a t shaped port out of the center of the box. not sure which one might be better.

im not putting this on the meter or anything just going for as loud and low as possible. ultimately id like to have as clost to 2 cubes per sub after all displacements as possible and i would like tuning around 33hz.

Do the port in the middle, all those turns cut efficiency. No serious issues with the box shape, just place the subs towards the center.

thats the word i was looking for...EFFICIENCY!!!! but no matter how i do it i will still have quite a few turns because with box size and port area the port has to be i believe 46 inches long or so

it does sound like alot. but i used winisd port velocity to configure it....port velocity needs to be under 25m/sec which is about 82ft/sec....and with that port my velocity is still hitting about 68-69ft/sec.

40 square inches of port area for the pair @33Hz is plenty at full excursion, Also 1100W to a SD-2 you better not give or you may be looking at more reconing soon.

no no no im running 2 sd's...not 1 lol and im looking into psi recones that will handle a little more power so they will take it just fine

Actually I was talking about the pair, the recones may improve power handling but they will have to let you know Xmax, Xmech for the custom subs, also your WinISD model will not be valid once the subs are reconed since all t/s parameters will change.

Looking at what you are trying to do I would go for better subs instead with greater excursion capability.

ya i know what your saying. i just really hate shopping for new stuff because i drive myself insane trying to make a decision. the sd 10s are ALOT tougher then i expected...so i figured if i could recone them and be able to push a little more power they should be fine. and it would be cheaper

there are just so many options out there. what 10s would you recommend? id love to go with 12's but unfortunately i cant make them fit.

If you are used to and like Sundown subs SA-10s will handle the 2200 with some care, they are 19mm Xmax subs Vs 12mm for the SD-2 so more potential and are not too expensive, the HDS310s are really inexpensive and will likely be above 20mm Xmax but will need a somewhat larger box, like 1.4-1.5 net per sub.
