Alpine Type R 12 5th gen

I have 2 of the current generation Type R 12's and I love em. I also have a friend with 4 Type R 15's and they sound great to me and he has had no complains. I bought my 2 12's for $140 a piece.

Can the type r 5th gen really handle say 900rms? I know its rated for 1k but I have read some bad reviews on them blowing. Also do you have them in a ported box?

I have them in a ported box and currently they are only running at 400rms each until I upgrade the rest of my system. I know my friend runs his 15's at 750rms (rated power) with no problems

Ok Thanks. Im very space limited so 1 type R 12" sealed or 1 10@35hz ported is about the best I can do. Im thinking about the Soundqubed hds300 ported@35hz. But the 7 1/2 mounting depth is a little bit to big but im going to see if I can fit it.

I'm really not a fan of sq Subs. heard allot of them. but yea the r can handle more then rated. i had one on my ct 1400 @1ohm for a bit and it did fine. as long as i didn't go crazy with the volume knob. and i had 2 jl 500/1 to.one sub for 4months never got stinky or anything. if you get a good box you'll be surprised how loud they get. wish i had a vid of my single 12.on both jl amps in the 3ft box. allot of you guys would be shocked by how loud that thing got! i showed up many kids with dual 12s and dual 15s

I plan on getting a custom box eventually but right now I have a Sound Ordanace prefab box that works great for now. I need to get the diminsions figured out exactly for my trunk, I think I can get close to the 2.5 if I do it right.

Very cool. Do you think 1/2 plywood is to thin for a type r 10. Because I can build a box with a net volume of. 1 cubic foot for a ported box. Also I have a hifonics zeus 1000.1 I'm sure it will do atlest 900rms. but with a ported box tuned to 35hz with at very least 0.85 cubic feet is 900rms to much for the type r? I can build a box with about 1cubic foot with 1/2 plywood or about 0.9 cubic foot with 3/8 plywood.

1/2 is too thin, unless you are using birch plywood don't just use plywood get some MDF instead, and as far a thickness use 3/4 and well braced the baffle should be ok with 3/4 but doubled up to 1.5 would be better if you can but not necessary.

Half inch plywood isn't good, a 3" port is too small, the Type R will handle more than rated and, the Zeus won't do 900 watts.

You'll need to build the box from 3/4" mdf or cabinet grade plywood and the Type R will need a 4" port at minimum.

use 3/4" MDF, not thin ass plywood.

if you smell burning coil, turn it down.

you Can put a clean 1500w to that sub all day. i wouldn't go that high in a sealed box because there is no cooling.

but I've said it to many times now and i cant stress it enough! don't put a type r in a sealed box! you won't like it! you'll have 45-80hz high pitched buzzing noise every time your bass hits! they are straight garbage in sealed boxes! build the biggest vented box you can and tune it as low as possible! i wouldn't go higher then 32hz 28-30hz would be much better!
