Need some opinions on a ZCON

Recommended Posts

Hi, i currently have an RE SX 18, wired to 1 ohm, powered by a SAZ-1500d in the trunk of my car and its just not doing it for me... I think the box is too monsterous for my trunk.. Anyway i found a 15" ZCON on craigslist (not sure of the impedance) for $350 in a box.. I know thats a steal but i'm kind of scared to go from an 18 to a 15.. I plan on keeping the amp i have for a while, but if the sub is DVC 2 ohm would my amp be enough to power a it? If i get a bigger amp would the zcon out perform the sx? Will it be louder? Will i lose flex? I plan on building a new box for it if i buy it.. Would you guys scrap the sx and go for the zcon? Any and all opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Well.... i got a zcon and a nice box for $300.... but the spider is cracked between the tinsel leads on both sides :/ and i had a blast carrying it in the box into my apartment..

Oh well guess i get to sharpen up my re-coning skills..

Another question.. Are these spiders supposed to be stiff? cuz i press on it and get more movement than i do on my SX 18 (extra spider on it though).

and sorry for the double post guys..

When ssa had their tax season sale I picked up a zcon 18 for 450 and if I remember right the 15 was like 425 or something so I would try and wait for a sale or just save up because you never know what the sub has been through with its previous owner. And I would also want more power on it too

Edut: just saw the post abover

Cracked spider? Dose that crack go all the way through, Because i know that sub has multiple spiders.

Hummm push the cone, does it move freely? Hear any coil rubbing or noise?

The ones we had was still stiff because they never got fully broken in cause of amp problems & back to back rebuilds before changing out to 8 icon's

But the spider should be to loose because it 4+ spiders sandwiched together.
