verojie Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 HI guys I need some help, Ive just set up my sub recently and it has started to make a really unattractive popping noise and it doesn't seem like it should do that. I have a boss phantom P156DVC http://www.bossaudio.com/auto/car-audio-sound-system-auto-stereo-dual-voice-coil-subwoofer-boss-audio-p156dvc/#p-specs Subwoofer Basics Subwoofer Size 15"" Subwoofer Type Component Total Power Output 2500 Watts RMS Power 1250 Watts @ 4 Ohms Frequency Response: 25 Hz to 1000 KHz And a boss audio r2000m amp http://www.bossaudio.com/auto/car-audio-sound-system-auto-monoblock-amplifier-boss-audio-r2000m/ Max Power Ratings Total Power 2000 Watts Max Power @ 2 Ohms 2000 Watts x 1 RMS Power Ratings RMS Power @ 4 Ohms 500 Watts x 1 I have wired it like this I have a feeling I have done something wrong, even on the amp I put all the setting on minimum then slowly put them up and it eventually gets to a point where it starts making that noise and they are not on max. Please help me out guys. thanks
afrakes Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Your clipping the living hell out of your sub/amp. What did u use to set the gains? Is bass boost off? Pics of said amp setting would be helpful. When I was curious once I cranked all my amp setting to see what would happen to a sub/amp combo I was ok with blowing, same thing. Disgusting popping noises, sub (dual brand) blew within 3 seconds. Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
verojie Posted June 3, 2014 Author Report Posted June 3, 2014 shit, how am i meant to not do this "clipping", is this when its overpowered
MaxVolume Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 first step is a good tuning, for that you need a dd-1 or an oscilloscope. if those aren't available its best to play safe and keep your gain low. Might want to do a bit more reading and research, google can be your best friend when starting out.
Tecomah Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Yeah sounds like bad clipping 750??! Yeah, fuck that. Fuck this website, fuck SMD, fuck Steve, fuck all of his butt buddy mods, and their couches.^ DON'T BE A DICK LIKE THIS GUY Team Subsonic Lows
Aj11 Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 clip clip city bich clip clip.... I've seen this many times. the issue your having ( mostly your amp) you think you have a 2000w amp and want it to sound like a 2000w amp. in no world will that amp do 2000w... ever! don't mean to seem like a jerk but its a crap amp. you keep turning your gain and bass boost up to make it loud. but that amp won't do it. so instead of you getting the deep powerful bass you want, you get a terrible popping.sound. also your wires prolly aren't big enough to support a "2000w" amp anyway. what gage wire are you using for power and ground? also a better ground could help. in short your not gonna get what you want from that amp. I'm sorry i truly am, we always try to tell people to stay away from boss, dual, sdx, xplod, Pyle, crunch, audio pipe... the list goes on. when you see a good brand like dc audio and there 2000w amp is $600 and the boss 2000w amp is $96 it's not that dc is trying to rip you off or just charge whatever they want! it's that there amp on the correct.wiring will do that 2000w plus some! while that boss amp is lucky if it puts out 500w of good clean power! sorry if i seem rude or mean, this is the truth! turn your bass boost off and don't turn your gain more then 1/4 of the way up. that's the only way your not gonna Fry your amp and kill.your sub. i know what your thinking "but it's not Loud with the gain only 1/4 of the way up" but that's what the amp is safe at. jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
Guest Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 that amp has 60 amps of fusing. itll do like 500w. if it doesnt sound loud, its because you're expecting 2000w but you're getting 1/4 of that.
STEvil Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 if it a hollow pop noise you may be bottoming out your voice coil or the triple joint has broken/ripped. amp sucks too. MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
