TheMonolith2001 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I keep seeing people say that a lot of capacitors that claim to be X farads are actually less and that few brands tell the truth about the rating. Well what brands are these? I know Rockford is one of them but there has to be more than just that right?
Krakin Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Just buy some useful capacitors like the Mawell or whatever. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
TheMonolith2001 Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 Yeah I will eventually but those are too expensive for me right now. I have looked into those a lot actually. The main reason I want it is actually to use as a quick disconnect because 0 gauge quick disconnects cost as much as a capacitor somehow so I figured I might as well get some marginal if any benefit out of it. Someone on craigslist has a Cadence 2F for 25 bucks. I don't really know much about Cadence but I have seen some people here use them. Should I go for it?
Wicks Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 What purpose do you want the caps to perform? 2F isn't going to do much for energy storage, but it could help filter some noise and whatnot. To really help stabilize your voltage with today's larger amplifiers, you need to be in the hundreds of farads. TheMonolith2001 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 I'm only running something like 1600rms at full tilt. Sometimes my voltage drops by like .2v. I'm not expecting much.
Wicks Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 In that case then sure try it out. It might help out if you have noise or whatnot. TheMonolith2001 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 Well that's good to hear. What is the word on recomended brands? The guy with the Cadence ended up being 2 hours away!
TheMonolith2001 Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 Should I just get a PPI so it matches my amps kind of sort of? They have a 3 farad for a good price on amazon. They even have a 10 farad for pretty cheap! Anyone use them before?
