GassenD Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Current Setup: Amp: Hifonics BRX2000.1D (Soon to be replaced with a SQ2200D)Subs: 2 Sundown SA 15's (D4, wired down to 1 ohm) Box: 6.6 Cu ft^3 @35 hz 1 Kinetik KHC 1800 (Front) 1 Kinetik KHC 2000 (Back) 130 Amp Alt Big 3 All KnuKonceptz 1/0Awg OFC wiring I figured since I'm sending in my BRX to get my money back this would be a good time to fix my grounds.. Currently My front battery is grounded to the engine block, and also at the factory ground on the chassis. And my 2nd battery is grounded to my chassis/floorpan (A few people have told me it's a crappy ground). What should I do? Would running another ground from the front battery down the frame. Then in the back it's kind of hard to get to frame from the inside without having to lift my explorer and drill through, I can however get under my truck enough to just make a ground from my frame in the back to the floorpan/chassis right down from my 2nd battery ground. Or should I just say, eh it works so leave it? '97 Explorer2 Sundown SA 15's SQ 2200D Kinetik KHC1800 (Front) Kinetik KHC 2000 (Back) KnuKonceptz 1/0 OFC 130A Alt + Big 3
Terra Rysing Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Sounds like to much work. The question is will the improvement make it worth while?
SnowDrifter Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Rather than guess at things, I'm going to have you measure something for me I'm assuming your amp is grounded to your rear battery, and rear battery grounded to floorpan right? Play a test tone of some sort at moderate volume Something to put a load on your electrical, but not enough to cause you to drop to battery voltage. Grab your multi meter and measure the voltage at your battery. Positive probe to positive terminal, same w/ negative. Record that number. Then while keeping the positive probe on your battery, move the negative probe to a different ground. Like your strut tower or seat bolt or something. Report back with these two numbers ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Report back with these two numbers Yeah I have my amp grounded to rear battery, then that grounded to floorpan.. The Strut tower was the first place I wanted to ground, but on my 97 Explorer there is no easy way to get to it really.. My whole rear panel is all connected and a pain to remove.. I'll have to get back to you on those measurements.. Just boxed the Hifonics up to send back, so i'll try those out once I get my new amp.. Or maybe just borrow a friends amp for a minute.. Would the seat bolt make a difference seeing as it's bolted to the floorpan about 6" from where I grounded my 2nd battery? BigManAC Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Grounding isn't something that you want to take the lazy road with. A bad ground can cause a whole mess of trouble with your system and could possibly cost you money in the long run. Get those measurements for Snow and them see what he says to do, he knows his shit so take his advice. I did and it worked out great for me. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw
SnowDrifter Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 For the sake of measuring with a multi meter, no it's fine. I wouldn't ground it with your amp, but it will work perfect to get a voltage reading with a multi meter ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
GassenD Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 Ah okay.. Well I'll do that once I get my new amp or if I just borrow a friends amp for awhile.. I'll message you my findings if that's okay. '97 Explorer2 Sundown SA 15's SQ 2200D Kinetik KHC1800 (Front) Kinetik KHC 2000 (Back) KnuKonceptz 1/0 OFC 130A Alt + Big 3
Guest Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 which vehicle are you working in? I bet someone on here has the same ride and can share their grounding point secrets
