SQL50
I keep having problems with my charging system. Initially i ran a stable 14 volts, the longer I went the past couple weeks, the voltage kept dropping. So I started the process of elimination. Big 3, 1/0 nvx. A new duralast alternator. A new kinetik hc1200. All I can hold is 12.5 volts at best. Even when I initially start it each day. Does anybody know what might be keeping me from running 14 volts? Thanks in advance. SnowDrifter
First, lets isolate whether it's the alt itself or something downstream 1. Verify belt tension is good and that the belt itself is in decent condition (cracks, glazing etc) 2. Look for black dust around the alt, indicative of belt slip 3. Verify that the plug on the alt is actually plugged in and not loose in some way 4. Use a DMM (multi meter) set to DC volts, and measure the voltage directly at the alternator with the car on. Negative probe to the alt casing, positive probe to the charging stud. Check voltage both at idle and revved. Be careful when you do this! ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
