Terrible ending for this water-cooling loop.....

Recommended Posts

This is what happens when a custom loop water cooling setup goes un-maintained for over a year.

Cliffs:

Guy died

Computer was on and running for a few months in a hot room.

Then turned off and sat for over a year.

I found it in this condition today...

Moral to the story! Make sure you don't die to maintain your loop. lol But really. Maintain your loop dudes.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

Galvanic corrosion at its finest. Gotta love dissimilar metals eating each other.

So is basically only the pump salvageable? That looks like the Laing D5/Swiftech MCP655 or whatever with the replaceable turbine.

EDIT: On second thought looks like the shit Koolance pump

That's what's odd. The copper base inside the koolance water block is shiny as can be. I'm not sure where the copper that is exposed is in the loop. As everything else appears to be alum.

It's a koolance pump.... It's toast too.

That's because the copper is what did the corroding. It's a more noble metal (more full electron orbits) than aluminum and will eat it when they're in contact or share an electrolyte (the fluid in the loop).

Chemistry!

That's why cathode protection for piping is crucial.
