Krakin Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 As you can see the ported version of the sub does have a deeper reach into the sub-bass all the way into infrasonic notes. This however is not accounting for any cabin gain whatsoever. So expect the low end of the sealed enclosure to be more appealing in reality. The downside to the extended bass-shelf is the delay it takes to create those lower notes. For reference lets take an echo. The human ear notices a sound as an echo around a 30 ms delay. The vented enclosure is in that territory once you start nearing the lower 30's. This will really hurt the lower acoustics, kicks, and other string instruments. I also did my best of trying to estimate a nice temperature and what I expected to be some normal humidity while on the road. Also be away that a 3 dB difference in level is barely if at all noticeable to the human ear. 6 dB is getting closer, while 10 dB is noticed as close to twice as loud or quieter. In hip hop/rap the base lines are normally not changing as fast as metal or other instrumental genres. It is normally about a single note over a period of a few seconds or longer. Also you stated that you like SQ a little more so I suggested sealed to have you experience a "tight" base.
