tju76 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Okay currently I am running a jl audio xd400 for my components an saz 1200d for my subs. I have done the big three and all 0 gauge. When I push the system to the max I will see voltage drops of 12.5 sometimes a little lower when the bass hits, I set my gains with a dd1 so I am getting a clean signal. I have a factory battery under the hood. My question is what is the risk of pushing the system and seeing this voltage drop I know the the amps and sub are overbuilt so I just want to know if this is Normal voltage drop. I was thinking about adding a second battery in the rear would this help with my problems. My factory alternator is 150amps also can anyone recommend a battery, and will I have any problems running different batterys. My other thought was replacing the lead acid battery under the hood with an agm battery but I don't know if this will be as good of a solution as running a seperate battery just for the amps . Thanks .
khinds94 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Your going to get a lot of different responses when it comes to "how low can my voltage drop" because it all depends on your equipment If you sundown is seeing 12.5 volts lowest I can almost guarantee you that it will not cause physical damage to the amplifier as you probably will be at a higher voltage for the majority of the time. I can tell you that sundown boards are very well built and last customers years on end and 12.5 volts is only just below battery resting voltage On the other hand some boards do not handle lower voltages well (some people say Brazilian boards) which could damage the amps themselves. As for your second statement you would probably see an improvement switching to an agm battery. Most people look at AH rating when it comes to batteries, however that isn't the only thing you want to look at when determining the "best" battery. Although the amp hour rating does serve some purpose in the battery capacity. There is really no specific characteristics to look at besides researching brands and models to best fit your needs. 03 Sable LS AA mayhem 12" D2 Sundown ZV4 12" D1 Tantric HD 12" D2 Tantric SHD 12" D1 Sundown X12 V2 D2 2.5 cu net Sundown 2000d @ 1 ohm XS Power XP2000 Sky High Sound Deadener Sky High wire Stock alt
tju76 Posted July 26, 2014 Author Report Posted July 26, 2014 Yeah i was thinking that it wasnt going to be a big problem. yeah im going to start researching some batteries for my needs. When you say switching do you mean replacing the factory battery or installing a second battery in the rear
slowfkncar Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 Yeah i was thinking that it wasnt going to be a big problem. yeah im going to start researching some batteries for my needs. When you say switching do you mean replacing the factory battery or installing a second battery in the rearboth batteries. Buy two of the exact same model and dated batteries. Install one on the front one on the rear. You will still get voltage drop, but not as bad.
