Hey everyone,

I'm new here and I'm planning a build for this summer. I'm planning on running 2 12" Fi BL subs being powerd by 2 JL Audio A1800 Mono block amps pushing 1000 rms to each sub @ 2 ohms. I'm going to run 0/1 gauge off the batt. into 4 gauge to the amps. I have a 5 Farad Cap right now and i'm purtting in a 200 amp alt in under the hood. is the 5 farad cap going to cut it? or should i upgrade to a 10 or 20 farad or should i get a kinetik cap killer(about 100 farad or so) to help the extra surge when needed? any advice for me? help is much apreciated(i can't spell!!!lol)

caps are typically rated at 1 farad for every 1000 watts. or .5 farads for every 500 watts. tho i dont recommend them. i never use them. and if you got a 200 amp H/O alt, you wont need it imo

Well, the thing is, everyone i ask here where i live, they say i should get a 10 or 20 farad cap. but i know that alot of people here in my down don't know squat. one of them that is pretty cool and is a good installer at the shop i go to was fired from the really good and expensive place in town for doing drugs. the good place says i should put "The Cap Killer" In my car. so i came here, thanks for the help guys, i'll try with out the cap for a wile with the new alt and see if i'm still getting the power loss. thanks every one!!

um... wouldn't hurt i guess with the 200a alt... if anything get one with a voltage meter... :D

but don't think you'll need one with the alt and all...

maybe look into batcaps ?

why no? please use your vast knowledge to educate

ive had problems with caps useing high wattage..... the cap and the batt drain leaving your alt pulling even more current making your problem bigger as it charges both the bat and the cap while the audio amp(s) pull the power faster than they can charge

low volts with high current draw = fire!

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

I guess it is a matter of personal preference.

Caps are only good as long as your alternator can charge them.

So in his case it may be worth it.

During bass hits the cap is sucked dry, the alternator then has to recharge the cap as well as supply the amp with the current it demands.

I personally would just stick with a H/O alternator and be done with it.

Maybe add a second battery if needed.
