eaglescorpio1 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 i need to know the formula for checking wattage using a volt meter. and my buddy said something about setting your amps using a meter ??? someone fill me in ok, jl audio's manuals for their amplifiers explains how we should set the gain on jl amplifiers using the voltage chart. I run jl amplifiers and I also use their procedure for setting up my friend's amps too, not just jl amps. It turns out awesome. JL audio has their manuals on their web site that you can pull up. Here is a voltage chart address for you. I don't know how to put a link in here but just highlight this address and copy and paste it into the web bar at the top of your screen. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l143/the...odirections.jpg Read how jl instructs us to set up their amps and use it for your amp. It is simple and uses minimal and basic tools. The only level I even consider turning up after the gain is set is the bass level control on the amplifier, not on the reciever!!! I have had very good results and if anyone reads this and I am doing something wrong, please notify me cause I don't want to lead someone in the wrong direction. I hope this helps. Loud as f*ck, and sounds good doing it. Team built from here on out!!!! BIG things to come......... Missing link is the shite!!!
duct_tape123 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Watts= Volts X Amps. You will need an ammeter to determine the actual amount of power going to you subs/speakers.
eaglescorpio1 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 that is true. watts=volts x amps. But the load of the speakers on the amplifier makes the output voltage vary at the speaker output terminal on the amplifier to create the same power output. Hence 1000 watts to a 4ohm load shows as 63.25 volts AC at the speaker output terminal on the amplifier. But 1000 watts into a 1ohm load shows as 31.62 volts AC at the speaker output terminal on the amplifier. Loud as f*ck, and sounds good doing it. Team built from here on out!!!! BIG things to come......... Missing link is the shite!!!
Torres Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 click the chart link in my sig. that might be a lil helpful to you. goes from 100 watts to 5000, and shows what you should be seeing from the amp at the given impedence
