dawgs007 Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 I just visited a local audio place and was looking to lower my freq. in my system and was advised to get a different box. Normally, I would probably build my own but I don't have the free time to do that so I may have them build it for me. The box will be tuned to 34hz and will be approx. 16x36x13 (L x W x H) inches. They are only asking ~$125. A.) Does this sound reasonable? B.) My current box is the same dimensions, but the port is tuned higher. Will this upgrade really make too big of a difference? Just looking for insight before I spend the money only to be disappointed. Thanks guys! dawgs007 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 What are the port dimensions of the new box going to be? We just went over the overall dimensions and tuning freq. He hasn't created the design yet. I can ask when I call to confirm the order to have it built... But I was more concerned if $125 if a lot or not for 2 12" ported tuned to 34hz. Sorry for the lack of info. OrionStang Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 It depends on the quality of the build and the knowledge of the builder as far as specs; volume, port design, etc. Its a low number but what are you really getting? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread

I assume typical box. Nothing too reinforced. Probably 3/4" MDF, etc. The place that would make it is by far the most trustworthy and technically knowledgeable place in the area. We have a couple other places but all of the workers seem like know it all's that can't answer a simple question. philrab Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 The questions you should ask, at least in my mind, are: 1. Material? Make damned sure it's 3/4" MDF or Birch. Some idiots will try to pass off plywood. 2. Depending on your power level, bracing/double baffle. Not sure if you're pushing enough power, but figure the enclosure is over 30" wide it really ought to have a little bit of bracing in the center of that wide span. 3. Finish? Is it actually going to be carpeted or something, or just a bare box? Get it all in writing before you pull the trigger, otherwise you're asking for trouble. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount.
