crippledstud Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 I'm wanting to build a box and was told a downfire box would be best for saving space and getting the best sound in my 2013 dodge caravan. I have 3 10" T1 Rockford Fosgate power series dual 2hom wired together at 1.33homs the older one with metal cone on a phoenix gold ti 1500.1 amp. My subs say they need 0.75 cf space in a sealed box. I need help on the size of the box, i was going to go 46" wide x 14" deep x 12" high, but that give me about 4.4 cf. and it is going to be an open box no dividers. Does anyone have any suggestion on size, type of box, anything would hep me out!
brent379 Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 i would have to disagree that a downfire enclosure would be best for sound and space saving. sealed would be best best for space saving. and with those dimensions you have about 3.37 INTERNAL cubic feet of space BEFORE any displacement. a downfiring box would be good if your putting it under that seat or something. if that is the most space you would like to give up then sealed will probably be your best bet, going ported you have to factor in port area/length which can ultimately add up to a decent amount of displacement which you would need to add size to the box to give each woofer the correct amount of air space after all displacements. and if you have never built a box before then start with a simple sealed box for the first one. they are pretty straight forward. would be good practice for getting nice straight cuts and getting all your joints nice and tight.
crippledstud Posted August 25, 2014 Author Report Posted August 25, 2014 a downfire box is sealed it just has legs on it and the subs face the ground.
