Juan Garza Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Hello has anyone on here done a 6th order for hdc3's? I have 15's and I want to do a blow-thru. With this being said ive read that they Dont do well in 4th orders. But the little info I have come across I haven't read something helpful to help me with a design.
brent379 Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 first thing...how many 15s are you running?? and second thing...is it parallel tuned or series tuned? i dont have experience with hdc's but i have read that they like bigger boxes and a healthy amount of port area. and very GENERAL guidelines for 6th orders...mainly series tuned 6ths...are about 8-10 sqin of port per cube for the rear chamber and 18-22 sqin of port area for the front chamber. so if your running 2 15s... you will probably want about 8-9 cubes after displacements with about ROUGHLY 64 sq in port area for the rear chamber. you might be able to get away with a single 8" aero granite thats only 50sq in port. and front chamber with a 1.5-1 ratio... say 12 cubes with about 216 sqin port area. port area figures are probably a little on the small side. it would be a good idea to model this up in winisd but prefereably something better like bbp6 or termpro. there are some guys on here that you could contact if your willing to pay for a good design. but like anything else..build and test!
Juan Garza Posted August 21, 2014 Author Report Posted August 21, 2014 2 15's soon to be 3. Right now they in 10 cubes after displacements with 19 inceh of port per cube.
brent379 Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 are you just running ported right now? and are yo0u wanting this 6th order to be built for 2 or 3?
Juan Garza Posted August 22, 2014 Author Report Posted August 22, 2014 Will be building for 2. If i like the outcome i will snag the 3rd one and do a blow-thru. I can try and fit one for 2 in the extended cab of my truck for the time being.
brent379 Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 Gotcha. Well if you are tuning then in ten cubes now and they are doing good then make the rear chamber of the 6th 10 cubes with smaller port area...80-100sqin. Dude this box is huge. Lol could easily be 30 cubes. Can you fit that in the bed of your truck?
Juan Garza Posted August 22, 2014 Author Report Posted August 22, 2014 My bed is about 50 cubes. for the love of god I can't find any basics on a series 6th order in terms of how bog or small chambers to start with.
brent379 Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 Start with your lower tuned rear chamber. Go by what is recommended by the woofer manufacturer for an optimal normal ported box. I know soundqubes recommended sizes are very generic. You said you have them in 5 cubes right now and if they are doing good no issues bottoming out then stick with that size for your rear chamber. Most people do a 1.5:1 or 2:1 ratio for daily setups. So of your rear chamber is 10 cubes make your front chamber 15-20 cubes. There is a 6th order audio builds page on Facebook. You can find alot of Good info on there. Just read thru comments. If you just Google 6th orders it's really really hard to find anything. I researched for a good month before I said Fuck it and built my little 6th.
