Different Voltage at different points??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just wanna verify something here, my voltage at the battery and voltage at the amp are different. I know resistance comes into play but should I be worried about this difference or is it normal?? ( Battery: 14.3v and Amp: 13.8v)

no clue how long your power run is but i think you quite possibly hit the nail on the head. I have the same voltage reading in both places, but, my power run is only like 6 or 7 feet. plus i have dual 0ga going to the sub amp and 1 run of 0ga going to the 4 channel (which is way more than it really needs wire wise).

Depends on the length and size of the run and how much current the amplifier is pulling.

Ok thanks. My 0ga cable should be about 9 feet long.

Does your sub amp have dual power inputs or you joining them together into one input??

Is this while playing music or just sitting with volume at 0? Car on or off? What color is your car? Only a single battery or more than 1?

This is with the silver car on lol, volume at 0 and with a single battery

That would be insane amounts of resistance. lol

That is actually a lot to be off with that short of a run. Volume at 0 IMO they should read the same. Volume way up and they could be different.

Possibly add battery right next to amp? Otherwise in larger systems this problem is usually remedied by adding a second run from front to back of vehicle but I don't think you need to do anything near that drastic yet.

I would look at ALL your connections before anything else, somewhere you are losing tons of current at volume 0. Half a volt at volume 0 to me is a lot. Mine was 0.5 volts off and I was like WTF, but that's just me.

I am not an expert and don't know exactly how to solve your problem but I would check connections. You soldered them? Crimp? CCA wire or OFC? etc.etc. etc.
