For installers, shop owners/salesmen; How do you handle unrealistic expectations of price?

Recommended Posts

Sometimes you don't need to make someone a customer. ;)

In all honesty, most people don't have a real idea walking into a shop. If you explain it to them start to finish the different directions they can choose and they still don't get it, then you can show them the direction of the door.

Bill nailed it. A good percentage of walk in customers have no idea what this stuff costs. If their budget is low suggest maybe doing things a little at a time, give them options of setups close to their budget, or get them to give you an idea of what they want and price it out for them, break it down so they can see exactly what it takes. A majority of the time they are understanding and will either compromise or do it a little at a time. If they still don't understand tell them they are welcome to find someone cheaper then see how much it costs them in the long run.

explain to them you get what you pay for......... save your coin and upgrade your system in parts/sections (this way you don't end up with speakers/amps/stuff you cant use when you upgrade) every customer has a budget and will want to stick to that.... if your a decent salesman you should be able to ask what they want to spend then put a few different packages together to suit that price range (always suggest a better package for a little more too) and explain to them why each one is different and why one will/should sound better than the others ect
