Painted tails came out flat what am I doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

So I finally got a spray gun and my new compressor hooked up so my first project was stripping off the VHT nighshades and clear coat from my tahoe tails that I did about a year ago. I used goof off which got about 85% of the vht and clear off before I ran out, then I used a combination of adhesive remover and acetone for the rest. I then had to sand numerous spots with 180 grit sandpaper to get some raised paint spots off, then I wet sanded them good with 1200 grit sandpaper until the lights were completely smooth....I got shop-line PPG automotive base coat and clear coat to paint them with..I got the hardener but forgot the reducer..So instead of going all the way back 30 minutes away to get the shop-line brand reducer I went to oreilleys and got some duplicolor reducer... The base coat ratio was 2:1 and clear coat ratio was 1:1 so I mixed the paint together and I put 2 oz of base, 1 oz of duplicolor reducer, and then I put 8oz of clear 4oz of hardner...It dried pretty quickly and tried looking like nightshades to be honest lol...Tonight I was going to wet sand them and mix some clear and try to see if that will make them nice and glossy..Any ideas?

Try spraying reducer on it. Are you having high humidity. Water in airline or compressor. Loos like it blushed on you. There is a product called Level All that would turn these glossy if that is what you want. It is a combination of reducer and lacquer thinner.

You whats funny is I accidentally spilled a little reducer on it and the part that got reducer on it turned glass like and glossy! Then when I did my next coat that went away of course...So I got the idea to try spraying them with reducer and I did and it didn't have near the effect that it did when I spilled it...So I had the idea to mix reducer with just a little tiny bit of clear and shoot that on today...and I painted in my garage yesterday it was about 75 degrees not particularly humid..I did wash the lights before hand but I thoroughly dried them and wiped em down
