csermonet47 Posted October 1, 2014 Report Posted October 1, 2014 What is drawing you to this particular amp, 2k at 1ohm? It's a Maxxsonics product, and not the flagship line from MB Quart. I would bet it doesn't do rated, especially if your electrical isn't up to par, and is power hungry like Hifonics amps. You could get something much better used, for the same price. You might be happy with it, might not.
AstoSoup Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Sadly, I have to agree with csermonet47^. I have a Hifonics BRZ1700.1D, by MaxxSonics. It needs a lot of power to do rated and even with a pretty hefty electrical system, does maybe 900W RMS out of the 1700 MaxxSonics boasts. I will put it this way, it barely moves my 1000W RMS PB 3XL 15 and that's @1ohm. I am pretty sure MBQuart uses a lot of the same electrical, boards, etc. as Hifonics, as they are both made by the same manufacturer. What is your price range? There are a lot of much better amps with much better efficiency out there, for a similar price. You can grab a Lanzar OPTI2000D for $246 shipped. .5ohm stable, will do an easy 2000 RMS @1ohm, that's what I am upgrading to when I get my second 15 here soon. Really for the subs I ran it with full power would have been a bit much, so it worked well. Definitely power hungry, and it makes a pretty bad humming noise. Overall though only had it protect on me once and I was asking for it, so it's been plenty reliable.
