Another benefit of the line array is they sound absolutely massive!!! They present much more of a cylindrical wavefront than standard single driver setups. I also have the equivalent of a 12" mid in each of those towers, so gobs of cone area. My listening room is only about 10x12, so maybe a bit overboard, but I listen to mostly doom, psychadelic, and sludge metal, so there's no such thing as too big and loud!

thats awesome. I was wondering if it was metal or sludge/doom/stoner rock whatever by the albums covers you had on the wall. I want to do a line array here in a bit as well, what type of crossover setup are you using, I saw your comment about a mids and highs crossover but is it passive then? And what do you mean by a 70hz fmod?

right seems like I should just look at speakerhardware

Yeah I really want to build a pair for pretty much all the reasons you like them. My biggest problem is finding the time, I always have too much to do and never enough time. My other restriction is I have to make them look nice or my wife won't let them in the house :-(

Just gotta find a way to hide them! :) The Darren Kuzma Line arrays on the partsexpress project section are pretty tiny and could be hidden pretty easy. My last two projects I just put a fancy black cloth grill on them and it gets high ratings with the girlfriend. (but maybe thats the difference ;) wife vs. GF)

also found a place that sells Jatoba lumber which when finished looks amazing.

The crossovers are passive and were included in the kit I got. I'm sure I could solder the crossovers myself if I wanted to, but I didn't. I'm sure you could run these active if you wanted. FMODs are tiny crossovers that mount inline with your rcas. For $25 a pair they work great! The TLAH is only good down to about 80hz, so cutting the bass and running a sub is definitely needed.

If you put a grill on these and kept them up against the wall they would be quite discreet, they only stick out 8" from the wall. Or if you have the right room you could build the triangular version and mount them way up in the top corners of the room. I would do that if I had a room that worked for it. My girlfriend wanted me to put grill on them, unfortunately I haven't had the time to get to it.......;)

I know when the time comes I can make them look nice enough to get spousal approval. The hard part is getting the time and paying for all the hardwood/veneer.

Aculous: Jatoba is a really nice wood. I used it for some contrasting stripes I did on some speakers a while ago, beautiful grain.

Well I took the first step today towards getting some TLAHs. I ordered the CD will all of BFM's plans on it. I figured I might as well get them all since I'm pretty curious just to see how a few of them are designed. I'm also entertaining the idea of becoming a BFM authorized builder.

Awesome, I thought about building one of the subs but I needed something for home theater lows and don't have the space for any of the larger designs. His designs are very detailed, I think you'll be pleased with them. For the triangular TLAH there are some pretty complex jigs that he designed, should make "mass production" really easy.

I really like the idea of a rectangular transmission line with a small format sub. I saw a dayton 6.5 woofer that has a freq. range of 35-2KHz or something like that would be good to see about suitability for a home theater sub. Or keep it simple, two 6.5 subs in a rectangular ported enclosure under a couch or against a wall. Super tiny format and good bass for a home theater type situation. Depends on your needs though, I mean you would be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of .5 cu ft. (thats a guess I haven't modeled anything or even thrown those woofer specs into Torres calc to rough it out)

I went with the powered 12 from parts express for ~$120 shipped, 120W and gets down to 25hz for home theater stuff. More than enough for my small apartment. They also sell that sub in 10 and 8 inch versions for a little cheaper too. They also have some cool undercouch stuff. I was planning on building something undercouch but have too much stuff stored under there. You might want something a bit bigger than an 6.5 to keep up with the TLAH.
