Tarball Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 first you have to understand what happens below the tuning point to grasp this. impedance drops off after tuning, this effect is more drastic as the order increases, rolling your windows down changes the order. Impedance drops also and so your amp is dumping more and more power into the sub due to the drop in impedance - this is why you can pop an amp below tuning if you arent feeding it properly and sometimes even if you are - depending on how low you are wired. SO if you turn the volume down you are just reducing the amount of power to the subs when you are playing below tuning with the windows open. You arent unloading necessarily because your volume is low enough to prevent the undesired effects of lowered impedance under the tuning point - hi amperage draw on the electrical, excessive cone movement - beyond xmax/xmech, heat. or something like that...
