d-nice88 Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 Any suggestions on a real hu ? I seen the pioneer 80prs would that work?
jakmagic Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 Yeah that's an awesome head unit, but it does have more depth than a lot of other headunits especially when you consider plugging RCAs into the back. I would suggest going to Sonic Electronix or Crutchfield, and seeing if it will fit into your vehicle. You don't have to purchase from them, just use their program to see what decks fit your car. I have a 97 Buick Lesabre and both places to me that the 80 prs and the Alpine CDE HD 149BT wouldn't fit my car because of depth issues and they were right. The Alpine was a slight shorter so I just ordered it thinking I will just make it fit. Well I made it fit but it took ALOT of work. I needed drills, die grinders, and bunch of special carbide bits for grinding. I also had to remove two of the dash boards main wiring harnesses which each harness consisted of about 30+ wire { lots of remaking and connecting wires involved}. Also I had to find the stubbiest RCA ends that I could find. All in all I made it work, but if you lack patience and some fabrication skill, suggest making sure you buy a headunit that is made to fit your car. If I remember right the 80 prs's body was a tad deeper than the hd 149 bt. Just a heads up!!!! Also if you do run into problems with your head unit mounting depth, the Connection BT2 & BT4 550 RCAs do have some pretty stubby connectors on them. They are also made by Audison, so they are built of pretty good quality. They were pretty pricy though but I'm sure you could find a good deal on some somewhere. They also make for a clean looking install, since they combine all four cables into one jacket (example being the 4 channel ones). It makes the run from front to back of your vehicle a lot easier. Id highly recommend them if you have a little extra budget to work with. 97 Buick LeSabre with stock 140 amp alternator XS Power D3400 (under the hood) using pdb distro blocks Big 3 done with 2/0 ga welding cable Alpine CDE-HD149BT head unit CT Sounds Meso 6.5" components CT Sounds 60.4 CT Sounds 1400.1 Fi Q 12 D2 with cooling in 2.5 net tuned @32 hz (box built by Sound Mekanix Customs) Bunch of Sky High 1/0 ga & 4 ga cable (plus fuse holders) Connection BT2 & BT4 550 (Audison) RCA's Bunch of Mojo Mat
