James Harrison Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 I currently have in an 06 envoy 4.2l i6 Big 3 in 1/0 ofc 2 XS d3400(1 run 1/0 pos and neg from front to back) mechman 250a alt DC 3.5K 1 DC XLM2 15 d2 zapco ref 750 and 350 About 20-30 seconds into a heavy song(with full charge on batts) i get voltage drop to 12-13ish volts and the amp starts to clip. Then the coil smells a bit. If i tune it not to clip it just isnt loud enough. Should this amp on this electrical be enough to smack this sub around? The more i lean on it the louder it gets, even when driven to clip it gets louder. So the sub isnt near reaching its limits on a power level when the amp is tuned properly. Do i need more batteries? Bigger amp? Bigger alt(biggest direct fit is a singer 350) would hate to throw in a 5k and wind up in the same boat due to electrical starvation as that amp should make that sub cry inside..... And can any of you machine heads make me a dual alt bracket? Would love to dedicate one alt to the sub amp @ 18v... PM me....
redwolf2 Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 I feel as if you have enough electrical to handle it... Also, 12-13 is acceptable voltage in most people's books Are you sure your amp is tuned right? Deck tuned right? Are you trying to ask too much from your setup?
Kyblack76 Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 That is fine. Voltage wise Amp "starts to clip" sounds funny. SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
Kyblack76 Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 You know what is needed to "run 18v?" I'm gonna bet no. 3k and you want to run they high ? SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
James Harrison Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 Nope. I have no idea what i need to run at 18v, other than another alternator. What is the most you guys think that 250a alt can handle sub amp wise? I can fit up to 4 total batteries in my current build, and i can still upgrade to a 350a alt, but thats the biggest anyone will make for my truck. Just trying to survey my options here
