betweenmatt Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Do you wire it up to the battery and run a switch/relay to turn it on with the ignition? or do you wire it up straight to an ignition turn on wire and let the car do the switching for you? My first plan would be the latter, but I'm not sure if that would give an accurate voltage reading. I got one coming and I'm just curious as to how you guys prefer to do it.

BigManAC Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 When I had the voltmeter in my car it had three out wires. A ground, positive, and turn-on wire. I just ran the voltmeter off of the battery for the most accurate reading. The ignition wire I just put on a fuse that came on once the car was started. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw
ROLEXrifleman Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 what are you trying to monitor? Rolex you sicken me. Just let me finish my pie ~ Juice
betweenmatt Posted January 20, 2015 Author Report Posted January 20, 2015 Oh ok the one I got only has two wires... Ill just run a relay to switch with ignition. And im running a hifonics bxi 1206d at 1 ohm, figured id start monitoring voltage since I switched to 1 ohm, and i got one that matches the dash lights lol.

Kyblack76 Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 a relay to a swtiched turn on.?. seems redundant.... SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold

No shit... That way it would "turn off" not in use,.. and show you what the amp board is really monitoring..... EDIT- i monitor my rear bank... but for this dude, i think its KISS time.... just meh... SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
betweenmatt Posted January 21, 2015 Author Report Posted January 21, 2015 a relay to a swtiched turn on.?. seems redundant.... a relay to a swtiched turn on.?. seems redundant.... thats with the assumption that the ignition wire/remote wire doesn't give as much of an accurate reading as wiring straight to the battery. I'm looking for accuracy, not convenience. using a relay is essentially what the amp does when you put voltage in the remote input, and same with the voltometers with 3 wires. the switched side of the relay goes to the battery, and the switching side goes to the ignition turn on.
