theoretically speaking? would this work?

Recommended Posts

So I keep seeing a lot of guys say that you can have a decent alt and still run big power as long as you have alot of backup from the batts. My question is, could it be the other way around as well? Say for example if I wanted to run A 2500 watt amp and had just a 240 amp alt. Would there be any need for batts other than a beefy starting battery?

Thanks!

I believe, it's a bad Idea not running a dedicated battery on an amp that size. If I recall correctly, the battery acts as a buffer so to speak for the alt. I've talked with Mike Singer on this a couple of times, but it was a while ago so I may be mistaken. I'm sure Kyle or someone else will be along shortly to correct me if I'm off base.

thanks guys! I don't have a 2500 watt amp as of yet but just preparing for the future. I was thinking it might be okay if I had like a d3400 under the hood and a 240 amp alt but I'll probably end up with another d3400 in the back along side the amp when that day comes. Just as good insurance.
