rfbasshead Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I'm swapping out my alternator as I'm typing this. The problem that I ran into is that the stock wire that went into the positive of the stalk alternator isn't fitting into the positive if the new alternator. How do I fix this?
808faka Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 is it the wire between the output stud on the alt and the positive terminal on the battery? if its not fitting go buy some 4 gauge or 1/0 and make a new one with the proper ring or whatever terminal it needs.
OrionStang Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 What doesn't fit? The plug? The ring terminal? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
rfbasshead Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 The ring terminal. Its to short by about an inch. Mechman told me that I don't plug the plug back in. I asked that first. It's the ring terminal that leads into the fuse box
OrionStang Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Make a new, preferably using 1/0. Just leave the stock one on for now if you don't have wire and rings lying around. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
rfbasshead Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 So make a new one going from the alternator into the fuse box?
OrionStang Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I have mine run straight from the alt to the battery. But yes, you can run the new wire to the fusebox, but id also upgrade the wire from the fuse box to battery positive, if you do it that way. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
rfbasshead Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 Then how does that fuse box get power?
rfbasshead Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 My car won't start unless that wire is connected ..
OrionStang Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 You just answered your own question then. All vehicles are different. What car are we talking about anyway? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
