He's given me the ok to do whatever I want with this space... I was thinking 2 12" in a 4th order but don't know too much about them.... Maybe just a ported box with 2 15s..... What's everyone's opinions on what I should do with the available space.... Any help would be appreciated
Shenker Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 If you dont know much about 4th's, dont bother, it may end up as a complete flop if one calculation is off. I wont even touch a 4th design, i dont know nearly enough about them to even attempt it. if you max your box size your gross volume is 11.44 cubes using 3/4" material, seems like a lot for a trunk to be honest considering my box for my suburban is 8.8 cubes gross for 4 10s, but its lots of space to work with for something cool if thats correct.. You are going to need to provide a little more information though. Whats your desired tuning? What power level? Possibly a 5k if I can talk him into it.. And yes the numbers are correct. That's my max dimensions. Don't have to use all that but can if need be.. I wouldn't have a problem building a 4th order If someone could help design it for me..

If you find someone to design you a good 4th order, you will probably be paying for it, im sure someone that's been around longer then I have could recommend someone to you but i know off the top of my head Ram Designs seems to do pretty darn good work. your best best is probably 2 high end 12s (perhaps 2 DC XL 12s on 5k would do some work) tuned around 35hz, probably one of the better musical setups you can do as high powered 12s are VERY versatile and will leave you some room to make an efficient box as opposed to cramming more cone area into a trunk and ending up with something peaky and inefficient. With the leftover room you could make a nice clean amp rack, and even house a battery or two. Triticum Agricolam Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 No offense man, but if you don't know much about 4th order bandpass boxes (ported boxes are 4th order designs too BTW) why do think you want one for your friend? There is a lot of info floating around about bandpass boxes and not all (or even most) of it is accurate. They aren't black magic that will mysteriously make you system 10 db louder, or provide perfect flat frequency response. Bandpass boxes have specific advantages, but those don't apply to 99% of car audio applications. If you are looking for system that is reasonable musical and decently loud a ported box designed to meet those goals will almost certainly be your best bet. Any help would be appreciated Pretty sure that a couple of very cool 15s will get you awesome performance ported, sealed off.
