What do you think it implies about that sub's performance in a ported box? As far as them "performing well", that's a pretty subjective thing. If you listen to music that doesn't have much bass below about 45 hz, they probably do sound fine. There is a LOT of music that fits that description. However if you want to hear the low bass this sub is not going to perform well in a ported box. Have you personally used them? That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Nor would I because I highly doubt I would be happy with their performance. I'm not saying they are bad subs, I am saying they are not going to perform as well as other subs of similar cost would for the application in which I would use them. If someone wants a sub that will perform well in a sealed box, these would do well. If you want to tell me that you have used them and you think they sound fine, that's great. I don't know what your musical tastes are, or how you like your music to sound. What you think sounds good, other people may not. The OP said he wanted "deep bass" and these subs are not going to do that as well as other subs could. I dont think that I have ever played any thing that low If the music you listen to doesn't have much content below 45 hz then there probably is not a lot of reason to change your system around much. If you don't know exactly how low the music you listen to goes, I suggest you find out so you can make a more informed decision. If you want to get louder you can add power. If you are going to rebuild your box anyway, I'd suggest giving it more port area so you don't run into port velocity issues if you do choose to add power. sirhutson Posted March 30, 2015 Report Posted March 30, 2015 Thats a good spot, but if you intend on playing into the lower frequencies effectively, you might think about making the surface area of the port a bit bigger. But this also goes into the area of testing different ports to see which sounds better. IE with a round port make the port 6 inches in diameter and lengthen the port to 25 - 30 inches. boss 1200 and a ipod nano.
