painting chevy grill (suburban/1500)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, in the fall I spent a bunch of time painting the grill of my suburban, I pulled it out, de-greased and cleaned the whole thing twice, wet sanded with 600 until the chrome was almost gone (I say almost as in it was patchy but smooth), cleaned it again, light coat of primer, did 4 coats (2 cans worth) of krylon superbond black spray paint which is also paint/prime combo, and then 5 coats of acrylic automotive spray bomb clear. about two months and a few washes later it started peeling, I was sooo mad, I spent HOURS making it look good, now its so spotted it looks awful and neglected. Im wondering what the proper way to to this is? did I do something wrong? am I just better off buying a blacked out grill from aftermarket? im trying to completely murder out the truck, all tinted and everything so the blacker and more aggressive of a finish I can get the better. Open to any suggestions at this point. Thanks in advance!

I was always told to use etching primer for this.

Thinking about doing this to my truck if I can find the mirrors im looking for ...
