Got new headunit with 4v preouts and I'm confused! Kenwood KDc- X898

So I got my new headunit a kenwood kdc-x898. It has 3 pairs of 4v preouts compared to my older Alpine UTE-42bt which had 2 pairs and was @ 2v.

When I plugged in my new headunit I expected everything to be louder as I left the gain the same (FOR NOW) and surprisingly everything is much quieter! I wasn't expecting this, I was expecting to have to re set my gains to somewhere around 1/2 much but as of now it looks like I'm going to be turning them all up even more, which I know won't affect the amps or make them work harder.

All the settings on my new headunit are "flat". The subwoofer is set to 0 from -15 - +15 (on the alpine I had it at 15/15 while it could go from 0-15) and all the others are at 0 too (treble, mid, bass ect...). I can turn this headunit all the way up to 35/35 and its not as loud as my old headunit was with the 2v preouts. The speakers are either the same at max volume or a tad quieter.

I plan on completely re-doing my gain settings and finding out my max HU volume before clipping tonight with my DD1 after work.

Is something funky or am I missing something? This is really making me question whether or not this headunit actually has 4v preouts.

As I have learned very recently from broke audio addict, in order for the preouts to reach the advertised output, the sub level has to be all the way up. And he was right. But what I also noticed when I did this is that my sub level RCA's lit the distortion light sooner on the DD-1 than when set to zero. At zero I can turn the head unit all the way up, at full sub level, I lost a few clicks (80PRS). So I chose to just leave it at zero and leave my gain where it was before on the sub amp instead of adjusting. Take an AC voltage measurement on your RCA's with everything set to flat after you find your distortion point.
